Web Design for Animators

Create a new transparent layer to work on. Draw some simple scribbles. Not too much and use different colours. Be careful not to draw on the background layer.

HTML came first and we can make a basic web page without Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript. But, what would be the fun in that? For animation JavaScript has the lead role. HTML and CSS are supporting characters.

To Vector Grahpics

Some images can be represented by non-pixel data. Vector graphics is defined by paths, anchor points, handles, colours, gradients. Vector graphics and mesh modells can both be rendered to an image of any size from a relatively small file size.

Duplicate your snowflake layer with the transparent background. Give the second layer a strong Gaussian blur. Then select the top non-blurred layer. Try different blend modes. This one is Grain Extract.

To Pixel Graphics

A pixel is a dot on the screen. Computer monitor pixels are bigger than smart phone pixels. TV pixels are rectangular. Images are built from pixels, but the image pixels are rarely shown on the screen at one to one. Almost all images are scaled before they are displayed.

Export your favourite snowflake with a transparent background. Save it as a png. Try viewing it with different colour backgrounds.

The third puzzle is the most important. Working with computers has always meant solving problems. Successful programmers anticipate problems and prepare for them.

To Mesh Modelling

Mesh model data defines vertices, edges, faces, textures and materials. Vector graphics and mesh modells can both be rendered to an image of any size from a relatively small file size.

Duplicate your scaled layers and arrange them so that the flake gets gradually larger and then smaller again.
